Today isn’t looking like a washout, at least not right now.
We are between two converging features: a weak surface front coming from our NW, and an upper level low coming from the S.

We think the rain should stay east of us tonight, but we are not completely ruling it out.
HRRR supports the Looks Pretty Good Tonight thinking:
Rain chances remain higher Sunday vs. today. An arriving upper level low pressure feature + a shortwave from the Mississippi Valley = a pretty decent chance of at least a little rain, maybe more. We’re hoping most of the rain will stay east of us. Rain is most likely between lunch and dinner.

The chill in the air is a thing of the past.
An arriving area of low pressure aloft, despite weak high pressure at the surface, means rain chances are back.
Without an obvious rain-initiating, trackable feature, timing/ETA/amounts are difficult. Our best thinking is:

Dewpoints have been in the 40°s and 50°s this week. Friday, 60°+. It’s still August.
We think rain chances will hold off until the weekend. Friday night football should be without weather worry.
Editor’s Note: I”m finishing this for Kaiti today. She and Meagan are on campus at Mississippi State. Kaiti was almost done with it when the active shooter situation started. Both are OK and not involved.

Those northerly winds are going to continue on Thursday due to the clockwise spin from the upper high.
Good news is the dew point will continue to stay in the upper 50s in the afternoon!

Winds may be a bit on the breezy side late this afternoon and early this evening, but they should relax after sunset.
It’ll be another pleasant end to the day, with temperatures in the low to mid 70°s and humidity staying low low low.

From the afternoon forecast discussion from NWS-Nashville:
A “cold front will move through tonight and while there could be some scattered showers and/or thunderstorms, models continue to show the front being very diffuse in nature. This should limit coverage this evening, but one or two strong storms aren’t out of the question, so remain weather aware this evening.”

This morning, a shower and storm producing shortwave was crossing through Middle Tennessee.
As I write this, it’s south of us.
Afternoon rain and storm chances are pretty small. A few showers may freckle the radar. Tailgaters beware.
