NWS-Nashville has us under a Heat Advisory through this evening and an Extreme Heat Warning that runs through Thursday evening, with heat indices climbing well into the 100s for several days in a row. We are not severe outlooked.
Today and Tonight
A stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out early this afternoon, but rain chances are low (around 15-20%) and the real story is the heat.

High near 93 with a heat index up to 102. Tonight stays muggy — low around 75, heat index still up around 105 after sunset. That’s the part that matters: when overnight lows don’t drop and the air stays sticky, your body doesn’t get the recovery window it needs before the next hot day.
Monday Through Thursday — the Dangerous Stretch

This is where NWS-Nashville is drawing a line under the forecast. From their key messages:
Dangerous heat and humidity are expected Monday through late next week (and possibly into the weekend) with triple digit heat indices expected on a daily basis.
High pressure both at the surface and aloft is parked over Middle Tennessee, and it’s not going anywhere. Winds stay light, skies stay mostly clear, and the heat just keeps stacking up day over day. Heat indices west of the Cumberland Plateau could reach 110.
Back Half of the Week
NWS-Nashville notes we may see some heat-driven showers or storms toward the end of next week, but no organized system is on the horizon. Rain chances stay in the single digits through Wednesday night. If anything pops, it’ll be the kind of thing that fires because the atmosphere can’t hold itself together in the afternoon heat — not a widespread severe setup.
Could change, as usual. But for now, plan on a long stretch of hot, dry, sunny days.
What to Do
Heat like this kills more people most years than tornadoes or floods. Take it seriously, especially because it’s a multi-day event — the danger builds as the heat compounds.

- Check on neighbors, especially older folks and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
- Don’t leave kids or pets in cars. Not for a minute. Interior temps spike fast.
- Move outdoor work and exercise to early morning or after sunset if you can. If you can’t, take frequent breaks in the shade or AC, and drink water before you feel thirsty.
- Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion (heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, headache) and heat stroke (confusion, hot dry skin, high body temp). Heat stroke is a 911 call.
- Pets need shade and water too, and pavement gets hot enough to burn paw pads — test it with your hand.
