Just sit back and imagine, rain-free, mid-upper 80º days in June… wait!
No need to imagine, that’s exactly what we are going to have most of this week! Just look at this:
High pressure is centered over central Missouri this morning. It will eventually move into the Tennessee River Valley by tomorrow, maintaining near-normal temperatures with comfortable dew points.
Waking up to a dewpoint of 71° is what you sign up for in Atlanta or B’ham or Florida or Gulfport Mississippi (gooooo mighty Admirals!) but here in Nashville that’s not cool. Upper 60°s dewpoints are fine, that was part of the contract we signed when we moved here, but I draw the line at 70°. I looked outside this morning and sweat formed on half my eyelashes and no one thought that was attractive.
Prepare for a sweaty day because it is not going to feel pleasant. High temps will be nearing 90, while dewpoints hover close to 70. That’s really humid. Most rain and storms have moved on to our east, but they left behind a pool of moisture right over Middle Tennessee.
Holy cow! It’s June! Where does the time go?
The overarching system that gave us showers and thunderstorms is on the way out this morning. However, there will be enough temperature recovery with residual small-scale boundaries to produce isolated to scattered thunderstorms. Isolated severe storms cannot be ruled out of the picture; however, the HRRR model doesn’t really think anything of consequence will pop over us today. Below is the NAM3 model:
Showers and storms have already appeared on the radar this morning, but as we are publishing this, the radar is quiet. That won’t last long.
Excessive moisture left behind by Alberto has kept dewpoints in the low 70’s, producing oppressive humidity. As high temps creep towards the 90 degree mark, this is going to be a hot and sweaty day. The moist and unstable airmass will fuel thunderstorm development today.
Alberto is finally on the way out of Tennessee. Thus, the Flash Flood Watch has been discontinued for Williamson and Davidson Counties.
Alberto has left exceptionally humid air behind, with dew points in the low 70s expected through Saturday. That’s low-end oppressive:
As Alberto passes by tonight, we should see light rain and briefly strong winds, but the main tornado concern should end by 8 PM.

Tropical Depression Alberto is near Birmingham at 9 AM Tuesday (see below).
Alberto is moving toward Middle Tennessee.
Its center will pass west of us tonight.
Expect off and on rain today as rain bands from Alberto’s north, northeast, and east sides rotate through.
Memorial Day isn’t Veterans Day. Memorial Day remembers those who died in defense of our country.
Alongside many of you I paused my Saturday on a warm day in 2012 to stand along Columbia Avenue in Franklin as the processional of Army Spc. Jason K. Edens passed by. I didn’t know him or his wife or his family and I still don’t know his family. But I decided as long as I have an audience – and I don’t hear from his family otherwise – that he would be the soldier we remember on Memorial Day.
