Chilly Mornings, Sunny Afternoons

For most of the week we’ll see a repeating pattern of cold mornings and sunny days with temps rising into the high 40s to 50s. This is pretty typical for this time of year. read more

I Broke A Rule Today...Sorta

Those of us who’ve been around Nashville for a while know that planting stuff before tax day is really just a demonstration of your lack of self-control. This describes me perfectly. I’m well aware that those green graph bars up there show two nights of sub-freezing temperatures, but I’m ready to get on with things, for the love. On the bright side, the only things I planted were fairly hearty shrubs. They should be alright. But, really, let’s get on with it. read more

Rain Returns Saturday Night, Welcome Back Freezing Temps

We’ve managed to dodged rain the past couple days thanks to dry air aloft. We’ll stay dry until Saturday evening when rain chances creep back in.

The HRRR model above only goes out as far as the loop shows, but showers are expected to continue through Sunday afternoon. Just some rain, not concerned about severe weather or flooding. We should stay dry Sunday night – Wednesday. read more

Not Much News Is Good News?

Really not much to cover here. Temps around average, some rain chances. No severe weather. Boring weather is good weather though?

I do not fault you if you look like this reading the blog.

Video gif. Middle aged white man in a baseball cap sits in bleachers with arms folded across his chest. His eyes are closed and his head drops like he's nodding off to sleep.

Anyway, some rain chances come in around lunch, maybe sooner. There’s some pretty dry air sitting above the surface, so it may take a while for the rain to actually make it to the ground. A rain jacket or umbrella, and it’ll not be bothersome. Should clear out for evening plans/SEC tourney goers. read more

Reality Check; Cooler and Wet Rest of the Week

The temperature graph above lacks fun colors, and that’s because we will be lacking fun temperatures for at least the next week (probably longer). We’ll take a break from the 70’s and 60’s, and settle down to cooler temperatures, which, we’ll really be where we ought to be this time of the year. We’ve been getting spoiled with warm temperatures, back to reality. read more

Rainy + Cooler End of the Week

Today will be nice, lots of sun and highs in the mid 60’s.

Majority of Wednesday will be dry until rain chances creep up in the afternoon and evening. Just some light showers.

Those rain chances will continue Thursday and Friday, looks like a break on Saturday, then picking back up for Sunday. read more

Beware of False Spring, Rain + Cooler Temps Returns Wednesday

It’s March, temps have been/are in the 70’s, even pushing 80° today, could it be…an early arrival of Spring??

No.

Veterans will know this happens pretty much every year, around the same time. False Spring. And then a blast of cooler temps likes to come smack you in the face to remind you, that just because it is meteorological spring, does not mean it is astronomical spring. read more

Dry + Warm Start to the Week, Opposite Ending

Today – Tuesday will be great for any and all outdoor activity. You may even break a sweat tomorrow with high temps pushing 80°. No rain.

Wednesday afternoon/evening rain chances increase, and they’ll stick around for the rest of the week. Rainfall totals Wednesday thru Saturday look to be around 1.5″, although that number may (probably will) change as we get closer. read more

‘Twas A Bit Less Windy Today, Rain-Free Til Wednesday

As they say, some of the prettiest weather occurs after a significant storm, and that we had.

Yesterday’s thunderstorms ended up not really being the main story. While there was wind damage associated with the storms themselves, we made it out without any tornadoes locally. Most of the wind damage of the day came after the storms departed and unfortunately, claimed a couple of lives here in Middle Tennessee. That’s news we certainly hated to hear. read more

Tornado Watch Until 1pm Today, High Wind Warning Until 6pm Today

Before we even dive into the severe threat, we seriously need to talk about this High Wind Warning. This is NOT your typical Wind Advisory that knocks your trash can down. This wind will take your trash can and trampoline down the street. Sustained winds of 25-35mph and gusts up to 60(!!)mph will be possible OUTSIDE of the thunderstorms. It can not be raining and the winds can gust to 60mph. These winds will down trees and power lines. It is important to keep your phone charge and make sure new batteries are in your weather radio so you can receive warnings if any are issued later today. Again, these winds will be OUTSIDE of the thunderstorms and it will be this windy before AND after the main line has passed. read more
