sNOw Chances Looking Very Meh + Drought Update

This graph from NWS Nashville shows only a 10 – 30% chance of us seeing 0.1″ +, or more commonly known as a dusting.

The odds are not in our favor.

New model data keeps coming in, and it shows bad news for those who had their fingers crossed for accumulating snow.

The HRRR model shows scattered rain/snow showers throughout the day Friday, most likely Friday evening, ending overnight Friday.

However, during this time the HRRR thinks surface temperatures will range from 35° – 38°, causing any snowflakes to melt on contact with the ground.

A majority of models agree and think temperatures will be several degrees above freezing. NWS Nashville thinks the most likely outcome is no accumulation. Higher elevations in the Plateau are where you need to head if you really want to see snow.

However, it’s very difficult to make promises about winter weather in Middle TN. These types of systems have overperformed before, and although it is unlikely, it’s not impossible for this one to either. A dusting on elevated surfaces and some grass is not impossible, especially in the higher elevation parts of our counties.

No travel impacts are expected, as road temperatures should stay safely above freezing.

Saturday + NYE look cold and dry.

The beginning of the 2024 stays chilly, with more precip chances towards the middle of next week.

Drought Update

Drought conditions have worsened, as the majority of Williamson Co. is now back under an Extreme Drought, with the rest of our area being under a Severe Drought. We are nearly 11″ below our average rainfall for the year, and we’ll get very little additional precip thru the end of 2023.
