NWS Nashville – “Special Weather Statement”

A powerful storm system will move across the Tennessee Valley this weekend, bringing much warmer temperatures to Middle Tennessee today and especially by Saturday. Showers and a few thunderstorms are also anticipated Saturday afternoon and into the evening. Some storms may be strong to possibly severe. Saturday night, an arctic cold front will sweep across Middle Tennessee, bringing much colder air back into the area. As this occurs, rain may changeover to a wintry mix of freezing rain or sleet late Saturday night into Sunday morning before precipitation ends. However, only light ice accumulation amounts look possible at this time. read more

The next few days will be rain-free and particularly chilly from tonight through Friday morning.

We currently have a series of high pressures set up to our west, as shown below.

High pressures have a clockwise circulation around them, so since they are to our west, these high pressures are causing for our winds to be from the North and thus bringing in cooler air. read more

Cloudy skies will prevail throughout the remainder of the day and into tonight.

One of our short term models has now decided that it wants to put some light showers over our area tomorrow.

Showers, if we see any, should be fairly scattered and brief. The AM work commute could be wet and you may need an umbrella heading into the office tomorrow  morning. NAM 4 has the showers drifting around through the morning, but mostly gone by the lunch hour. read more

“Warming Up”

Warm air begins to advect (propagate) into southern and middle Tennessee during the day on Sunday. The center of high pressure that was entrenched over-top of us keeping our temperatures down will slide east towards the Appalachians, and relatively warmer air will arrive to replace the chill. read more
