Locate Your Jacket. You’ll Need It Tuesday Morning.

Summary

This morning, NWS-Nashville wrote:

Today will be the last day of above-average temperatures for the week.

Then this:

As of the current forecast, today`s high of around 93 will be the last time Nashville will see above 80 until next Saturday.

Sunday

One more day of summer weather.

Same as it was yesterday. Hot. Some humidity, but not oppressive humidity.

No models show rain, which makes meteorological sense because high pressure is in charge, pushing away any rain chances. That high pressure will be out of here tomorrow. read more

Quiet Weather-Week Ahead

Rainfall totals from 7 AM Sat to 7 AM Sunday, via Cocorahs

We may see a little rain overnight

Most of it is going south of us, but sometime before midnight, expect a little light rain to fall. The HRRR model illustrates:

Otherwise, we are shenanigan-free.

Sunny, with less humidity this week

Steady sunshine returns Monday. The dewpoint will stay in the low 60°s for more than 48 hours.

We will accept your “when’s it ever going to stop being so hot” complaints Thursday, when fall formally starts.

We’ll still get some summer weather

Looks like high pressure to our east late in the week will send us more heat and humidity for the weekend. And, yeah, there may be some rain, too. But, that’s to be determined. From NWS-Nashville:

Our next shot at rain could hold off until the end of next weekend as models are fairly consistent in showing a large upper level system pushing out of the Pacific Northwest Friday and its cold front reaching us by Sunday night or Monday of next week. However, even with the model continuity that far out, will carry only a chance probability of precipitation as this is Day 8 and things will likely change by the time we get there. read more

Rain Finally Leaving...Until Maybe Later Tonight

We got more rain overnight

Especially south of 40:

Storm Total Rain — West Williamson got the most

Again, this is likely an overestimate. We won’t know for sure until the Cocorahs data starts showing up with actual measurements.

I think the rain may be gone for today, but maybe not tonight

Rain and clouds are lined up along this purple line. This is an infrared satellite view, showing that the rain has finally moved east of us this morning: read more

Halfway Thru a 48 Hour Humidity Break. (Then...yeah, you guessed it)

Great Day Everywhere Except Nissan Stadium

Saturday’s high humidity (70 at 9:15 PM) is, as I write this, gone. The dewpoint is now 54. So nice, so dry. Thanks, cool front!

“Don’t Get Too Comfortable Though, As We Will Warm Up Again This Week.”

That was our cheerful NWS-Nashville, letting us down gently.

Expect a warm/hot, but comfortable, high of 88 on Monday. read more

Good Labor Day Weather Ahead

Temps, Humidity Creeping Up

A gradual, slow creep, y’all. It won’t be too hot, and the humidity won’t be oppressive. A nice day for the pool tomorrow.

It’s still summer. Do Labor Day right.

Expect high temps in the low-to-mid 90s this week.

Rain Anytime Soon? Nah.

Kinda like this:

When’s It Gonna Get Stupid Hot and Humid Again?

I’ll let NWS-Nashville break it to you:

... by Thursday afternoon we`ll be looking at the same type sultry conditions we`ve grown so accustomed to over recent months.

Add to that, regarding Thursday:

A return to isolated, pop-up afternoon thunderstorms. read more

A Little More Humidity, But No One Is Complaining

A Little More Humidity

About a week ago the dewpoint was in the low 70°s, which is very humid, as in borderline oppressive humidity.

Then we had that cool front arrive Thursday. North winds at the surface scoured away the gross and dropped our dewpoints into the glorious mid 50°s. read more

Some Humidity Relief Expected Thursday & Friday

Watching a Few Storms Today and Tonight

We are in nowcast mode @NashSevereWx on Twitter as storms pop up and work their way in from the east.

We will may see a few weak microbursts. Microbursts happen when winds come screaming down from a storm, slam into the ground, then spread out in all directions. Here is an example. read more

Is It Too Late To Say I’m Sorry?

More Heat & Humidity

This gif expresses how I feel about the heat:

Here we have the Biebs representing HEAT, sticking out in the crowd, and being obnoxious about it with the gold watch, two gold chains, red hot hat brim, indoor sunglasses, and that unnecessarily cool way he grips the water bottle. I like that he’s hydrating (although, why two tiny sips, Biebs?), but I can’t think that leather (?) garbage-bag-styled shirt is the loose, lightweight clothing that makes more sense during a heat wave. And worst part about it, is the gif never moves on. It’s stuck in an interminable loop. read more

Gloriously-Low Humidity

The Cold Front Has Arrived

It showed up today, sweeping away the humid air that’s been hanging around for weeks.

Water vapor imagery shows humid air in white (departing), dry air in black (arriving):

If you pay close attention to the above, you’ll see the humid air sink south of the TN/MS border, then surge back north of it. Although that’s disconcerting, we are confident our drying out trend will continue tonight, tomorrow, and Tuesday. read more

Tonight We’ll Drop Below 70° For The First Time in 49 Days

It’s Here! It’s Finally Here!

Several weeks we’ve been waiting for this. Waiting for an honest cold front, strong enough to scour away the rain and the humidity.

The cold front gets here today.

This morning’s heavy rain was pre-frontal, meaning, it’s the rain before the cold front comes through. read more
