So, The Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon is Sunday morning. I’m learning about it today because y’all are tweeting us about it: “Will it rain? Whats the deal?” I didn’t know what it was, so I visited the website, and it says “We promise to give you approximately 26.2 tough and memorable miles, with a total of over 3600 feet each of elevation gain and loss, or over 7200 feet of overall elevation change.”

Today – Cool – 43°
A dry cold front pushed through Middle Tennessee late last night, bringing a cold north wind along with it. We will only warm up into the lower 40’s.

Friday – Warming – Wake Up 26°, High 50°

Today – Warmer – 51°
We started today in the teens again, but a southwest wind and sunny skies have come to the rescue.

This warm up is ahead of a dry cold front that will push through Middle Tennessee late this afternoon into tonight. The front will merely maintain the cooler conditions for a few more days.

Today – Below Freezing – 31° (Wind Chill 22°)
At 3 AM, a few misbehaving flurries pushed east of Nashville, leaving us bitterly cold and dry. This morning was the coldest the lower 48 states have been since 1976… 85 percent of the continental US experienced at or below freezing conditions which affected 226 million Americans!

Today/Tonight – Too Cold – Wind Chills in the Teens Tonight
This morning’s NWS media/emergency management conference call started with these two graphics:
After noon today, temps will drop below freezing, and stay there for about 36 hours.

As a Weather-Ready Ambassador, and because today marks the beginning of Winter Weather Awareness Week in Tennessee, we are honor-bound to ask you to read through the NWS’s Winter Weather Info & Preparedness tips! If you memorize and recite these at parties, everybody will be talking about it.

Tonight/Overnight/Sunday Morning – Precip Arrives, Probably Not Any Freezy Stuff – Low 32°
Temps are going to very slowly dip from the upper 30°s, then the mid 30°s, and maybe even drop down to (but not below) freezing.

Today – Partly Sunny & Cold – High 45°
A south wind produced by high pressure just off to our E will warm us up into the mid 40’s during the day.

The National Weather Service believes we will have a slight chance for rain and sleet after 1 AM, as a low pressure system nears Nashville. IMO we will not have any precip until sunrise on Sunday, and it will just be a cold rain. A few places such as bridges and overpasses could accumulate some patches of ice, but for the most part this won’t be a big deal.
