With a max high temperature of 81° this afternoon, we have officially broken the long standing record for the day from 1890.
81° the official high so far today. The previous record was 77° set back in 1890.
A Look At Our Temperatures to End the Work Week
With highs through Friday expected to be in the 70s, we do have the possibility of breaking a record to finish the week.
The forecast high for Friday is currently 77°. The standing record on February 22nd all the way from 1890 is 77°. So, with our forecast high being so close to the current record, I’d keep an eye on Friday
Potentially Record High Temperatures This Week
Not only will our high temps stay in the 70s throughout the week, we do have a couple days that we could tango with the current record.
Today, we came close to the record of 78° which occurred in 2014, but we ended up a degree short. So no new record for today.
Over the next several days, our temps will remain steadily in the 60s and 70s for our highs. The only “break” in the 70° trend will come tomorrow when some showers pass through the area and bring clouds with it (more on this later).
We still have a few lingering clouds this afternoon as shown by the current satellite imagery below.
These clouds will continue to drift to the east, and decrease through the rest of the afternoon into the evening. The rest of the week appears to have plenty of sunshine.
Our clear skies from today have already begun to transition into cloudy skies. As we make our way through the evening, expect for a clouds to continue to move in ahead of tomorrow’s rain.

Just like that our temps have jumped back into the 60s and are here to stay for the next few days. Mostly clear skies expected for tonight. Continuing into tonight is our main story line of our gusty winds.
All of the severe stuff quickly developed and has quickly moved onto our eastern counties. Both Davidson and Williamson Counties have been removed from the Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued earlier this afternoon.
Timing:
Generally speaking, we could start to see showers as early as sunrise. Models have continued to trend at a morning arrival for the “severe” stuff.
NAM 4 (from 9 PM tonight through 9 PM Tuesday night) thinks tomorrow the heavier rain will pass through in the AM, with some straggling showers through the rest of the day.
January was fairly warm. We’ve had some people ask us, so was this the warmest on record? Well … not quite. According to our local National Weather Service Office:
“January, 2017 was the 5th warmest January in Nashville’s history. The average temperature for the month was 47.1°, which was 9.3° above normal. The average high temperature was 55.0° and the average low was 39.1°. The highest observed temperature during the month was 72° on the 16th and the lowest was 8° on the 8th.”
