Daily Afternoon Storm (Severe?) Chances, Extreme Heat Warning thru Friday

In addition to our dangerous heat, we have a threat of severe weather to watch for this afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked us with a 30% chance of damaging straight-line winds and a 5% chance of hail within 25 miles. No tornado concerns. The main thing we’ll be watching for will be the threat of microbursts. These water and wind loaded downdrafts can cause some issues. You can read more on them here: What is a Microburst?

Storms will continue to be scattered in nature as they pop up this afternoon and evening. Unfortunately, can’t get any more specific than that with timing due to the storms being scattered.

HRRR mode gives a guess. Doesn’t show too many storms firing off, but also isn’t a perfect model.

Remain weather aware today, especially if you have outdoor plans. You do not want to get caught outside in one of these. We’ll be sending our stuff all day on our socials as needed.

Our stretch of dangerous heat continues. Highs again into the upper 90s, paired with dewpoints in the low 70s = heat index values in the 105-110°+ range. For this reason, our Extreme Heat Warning continues thru 8p Friday.

Please continue to take it easy if you have to be outdoors for long periods of time. Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks. Check in on those who may be without adequate A/C. Also, know the signs of heat illness and what actions to take.

A Heat Advisory will pick up where the Extreme Heat Warning leaves on and will be in effect for all day on Saturday.

Temperatures will back off ever so slightly. Whether it feels like 105° or 110°, you won’t feel a ton of difference. Regardless of your plans for the 4th, continue to take precautions against the heat. I plan on being near a body of water.

Afternoon and early evening Wattery (water + lottery) chances continue daily through early next week, yes, including on Saturday.

Coverage will continue to be isolated to scattered, meaning not everyone will see a storm. Those with outdoor plans should be weather aware and know where to go indoors to ride out a storm, as lightning and heavy rain will be possible. Good news, coverage will die down each day as we near sunset. So right now, firework plans look promising. We’ll keep an eye on things.
