Smoke
Smoke from wildfires in Canada has made its way down here and caused some hazy conditions.
This looks more like a scene from an apocalypse movie, but nope, it’s Nashville.
This haze and smoke will linger, leaving us with an Air Quality Alert today. Take it easy if you have respiratory issues. Smoke will clear by Tuesday.
Severe Weather
The Storm Prediction Center has divided our two counties. Areas in the yellow (bascially Davidson Co., extreme northern Will Co.) have been outlooked with a 15% chance of damaging straight-line winds and severe hail within 25 miles. Areas in green (majority of Will Co.) have a 5% chance of those hazards also within 25 miles. No one is outlooked for tornadoes today.
A lot of uncertainty today, as models have a lot of question about whether the line of storms actually make it here.
It’s honestly hard to find a model that does think the storms make it. A overwhelming majority have nothing or just showers. This is an encouraging sign, but models can be wrong. If you have outdoor plans this afternoon and evening keep an eye on the radar and if thunder roars, go indoors.
Daily Wattery chances in the afternoon/evening will stick around all week. A few may be strong to severe with some gusty winds and small hail.
Heat
And if those two things weren’t enough, we also have heat to deal with. Tuesday thru Thursday heat index values look to be 100°+. Wednesday looks to be the hottest day with heat index values getting up to 108°, a Heat Advisory may be needed.
Thankfully it looks like we “cool” down into the upper 80’s this weekend.
