HOT & Afternoon Thunderstorm Chances Continue

Rest of Today – Isolated Showers Possible – High 95

Can you say HOT? That is all it’s been today. The heat index reached 101 this afternoon. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view), it does not look likely any shower or thunderstorms will be cooling us off this afternoon. Most of the thunderstorm activity is far off to our east.

Still, some widely scattered thunderstorms are popping up, mostly to our south and east, and those could fly by. Lightning would be the main concern, although we can’t rule out an unusually strong cell or two.

Thursday – Scattered Thunderstorms Possible – High 95

The heat stays. Believe it or not, cities in the northeast could be hotter than we will be. Afternoon pop-up thunderstorms can’t be ruled out. Most of the models keep us free of any rain. Remember, weather models are not always right.

Friday – Afternoon Thunderstorms – High 94

Will be a little bit cooler as the high pressure system to blame for this hot weather begins to break down. Enter another chance for afternoon thunderstorms.

The GFS (American) weather model predicts active weather for us Friday around 1 PM:

Weekend – Stormy, Cooler

Another unseasonable/unusual cold front will trigger thunderstorms along the frontal boundary. We could be dealing with thunderstorms from Saturday till Sunday afternoon.
