Talking Music City Bowl, NYE, And Much Colder Air Coming As We Get Into January

A few showers will be possible this evening, maybe even a rumble of thunder – but most models (including the HRRR shown below) think majority of the activity will stay to our north.

Weather for the Music City Bowl and any other plans you may have for Monday look great weather-wise.

High temps will get into the low 60s and no rain expected tomorrow. Temps about 15 degrees above average for this time of year.

New Years Eve (Tuesday):

Some on/off showers along with gusty winds (up to 30 mph) look possible thru the afternoon before we turn drier and cooler.

Any nighttime celebrations look dry, but temps will fall into the 40s (and eventually in the 30s, if you’re still going).

The first few days of 2025 appear dry with temps around average for the beginning of January.

There’s been lots of images with crazy colors indicating super cold temperatures and ridiculous amounts of snowfall for us floating around the internet, as they often do this time of year.

While the majority of these are hand-picked from single runs of deterministic models, there is growing confidence that we could see temperatures well below average as we get into January.

The CPC gives us an 80 – 90% chance of seeing below normal temperatures from January 6 – 12. Now, how far below average is unclear, especially this far out. However, this is pretty solid agreement that we are in for some cold weather.

For snowfall, it’s especially hard to tell this far out. Colder weather doesn’t guarantee snowfall. The Euro and GFS ensembles both show some potential for winter weather during this time, but this far out – it just doesn’t hold too much weight.

We’ll be watching how this all progresses. But it’s likely that…
