Before we get into what you all clicked on this blog for, I do want to briefly address the cold[er than normal] temperatures this week. Lows tonight will bottom out near 14°, and we’ll see similar lows this weekend. Prepare to protect any exposed pipes, bring in the pets, all the cold weather things.

Okay, now to address this guy…

Yes – there is a chance of wintry precipitation this weekend (general timing looks to be Sat/Sun, although this could change).

There is still a lot of uncertainty with this.
Let’s dive into the models, probably a little more than we usually do. Although they are still to be used as guidance, not gospel.
The Euro model has been all over this and loves our snow chances. It gives us some impressive snowfall totals. I’m not sold on this yet, so I’m not going to show it. But you’ve probably seen it, it’s gone Triple Platinum on Facebook.
The GFS model isn’t as impressed. Shows a lot less support for big snow.
The AI Euro shows all the wintry stuff miss us to the north.
My preferred method of model viewing – especially ~5 days out – is to look at the ensembles. It takes a ton of model runs and throws them all together. For example, instead of just getting the opinion of 1 run of the Euro, we get 50 opinions.
Here’s a look at 4 different ensembles guesses on total snowfall amounts.

Safe to say, for now, they are onboard with at least some snow.
And looking at the past 4 runs of the National Blend of Models, it shows increasing confidence in some snow this weekend.

Try not to pay too much attention to exact location, exact amounts – it’s far too early to get into that. Nobody knows exact impacts, timing, anything like that this far out. We’ll get a lot more model data in between now and this weekend.
We’ll be all over this, all week long, and will keep y’all updated with the latest info.
FWIW, *if* we do get any wintry precipitation, models keep us below freezing into early next week – prolonging any impacts.
We also have a chance for some showers Wednesday night/Thursday morning but is likely all rain. Maybe a few flakes mix in towards the end, but no accumulation.
