Near-Blerg Today, Potential for Freezing Fog Tonight?

A really gross day today. Temperatures have actually dropped throughout the day; our high temperature of 38° occurred right around midnight. We were very close to achieving Blerg status today.

Blerg:

  • Less than 40° all day: ✅
  • No sun: ✅
  • No rain/snow: ❌

We did have some rain last night in the early morning hours and even some flurries being squeezed out today – so not officially a Blerg.

Tonight, we’ll be watching for the potential of some fog formation. Although fog can certainly be annoying, it’s not usually a big headline. However, with temperatures expected to be well below freezing, said fog would actually be freezing fog.

Since fog is usually a cloud consisting of super tiny water droplets, when temperatures are below freezing, these water droplets can freeze onto surfaces, causing a thin layer of ice to form. This would mainly be an issue on bridges and overpasses.

This is not something that is likely to cause widespread issues. It’s not even a certainty if we see any fog form tonight; these pesky clouds that have been hanging around all day would have to clear out. We’ll keep y’all updated.

Temps will remain mostly below-average over at least the next 7 days – each morning waking up with temps below freezing.

Our next chance at precipitation will be late Thursday night/early Friday morning.

The latest few runs of the Euro model have suggested this possibly starting out as some sort of wintry mix before transitioning to all rain as temperatures rise. While this is certainly not set in stone, it’ll be something to watch. Currently, no major impacts are expected. Even if we do see anything out of this, temperatures will get above freezing by Friday mid-morning.

Good news is that the remainder of the day Friday and Saturday should be dry. Other precip chances possible again late Sunday night.
