Very Low-End Threat of a Strong Storm This Evening/Tonight

Last night, the Storm Prediction Center introduced a very-low end threat of severe weather for this evening into the overnight hours. Emphasis on very low-end.

To be specific, there’s a 5% chance of damaging straight-line winds and a 2% chance of a tornado within 25 miles. Did I mention this was a very low-end threat?

The main timeframe for severe weather looks to be 6p – midnight, maybe a little later. I know a 6-hour window isn’t very helpful, but that’s just about as specific as things can get right now. I really do think the majority of this timeframe will be dry, but a stray strong storm cannot be ruled out.

The 12z run of the HRRR model demonstrates the thinking of “scattered” storms. It keeps things very quiet for us, but remember that models are guidance – not gospel.

I do think most outdoor activities tonight will go off without a hitch but be sure to stay weather aware just in case. Have ways to receive warnings, especially before you go to bed – Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone, NOAA Weather Radio, wake-me-up app, all great ways.

As always, we’ll post updates as needed on all of our socials and will go live on YouTube if a warning is issued for any portion of our two counties.

We could have a few leftover showers early Saturday morning, but we’ll be left with a dry rest of the weekend. Highs in the mid 60s, great weather for this time of the year.

Our next wave of rain arrives Monday night and continues thru midday Tuesday. Timing subject to change. No severe weather concerns, just some good rain. The Euro model gives a guess below:

After that, we should be left with some decent late November weather for the remainder of the week.

Wednesday should be nice and dry, for those traveling on the busiest travel day of the year.

Turkey Day also looks dry with some crisp, cool air coming in. Highs only reaching ~50°, which is slightly cooler than average. I’ll also show a national view, since a lot of folks won’t be in town – but the weather looks good for most of the country.

Those cooler temperatures will stick around on Black Friday and likely thru the end of November.
