More Northern Lights Tonight(?), Dry Until Early Next Week

Seeing the Northern Lights had always been on my bucket list. I was fully prepared to take a trip up to some very high-latitude place to see them – until May 2024 when they were visible all the way down here. We got treated again in October of 2024, and yet again last night. It doesn’t get any less cool each time.

My knowledge on this sort of stuff is truthfully very limited, but it looks like we could get another shot of seeing the Aura Borealis tonight, and we are in for another clear, cloud-less night. If we are able to see it, the best viewing experience will be far away from the light pollution of cities. Think of the most rural place and head there.

Temperature-wise, afternoons will be comfortable for the next week or so. High temps in the low to mid 70s Friday thru Sunday, mid 60s otherwise. All above our average high of ~60°. We’ll avoid temps at or below freezing for at least the next…while.

Models have pushed back the arrival of our next rain event, now looks more like Monday or Tuesday until we see some rain instead of Sunday. Not surprising that this has changed – and it will probably continue to be tweaked between now and then.

This quote from the NWS Nashville AFD sums things up fairly well:

“Models have not been consistent at all with the timing and intensity of systems next week. But, in spite of great forecast uncertainty, I think we can say next week will bring a more unsettled, wet, and mild pattern.”
