Widespread Rain Likely Today, Low Chances Saturday/Sunday
Friday, October 2, 2026 · Elan
After a long hiatus, widespread rain finally returns to the forecast today.
It seems likely that everyone will get at least some rain, with varying amounts depending on exactly where you are and how lucky you get.
Consensus seems like rain will begin to start from NW to SE this afternoon, with the heaviest rain occurring during the initial onset of showers. No worries about severe weather but can’t rule out a rumble of thunder or two. Homecoming activities could run into some issues. Also given the fact that it hasn’t rained in over a month in some places, roads will be extra slick. Paired with afternoon rush hour, no good. Give yourself some extra time on the commute home.
Rain will start to taper off around dinner, with lingering showers throughout the evening. Don’t foresee any delays with FNL, but a rain jacket/poncho will likely be useful – that goes for all dinner/evening plans.
The HRRR model gives a guess, radar won’t look exactly like this – but it’s a good visual on the overall thinking.
Saturday continues to trend drier and drier.
Some places may stay totally dry, with rain chances mostly confined to our SE area for places like Rutherford Co, but even those chances are limited to the morning. Signs point to a dry day from lunch onwards.
Great news for any outdoor plans you may have, from the Mile Long Market & Yard Sale in Watertown to Oktoberfest activities in Germantown, and all places in-between. Bad news for your crunchy grass.
Sunday looks about the same. Low rain chances in the morning, with the relatively “higher” chances in our SE area. But yet again, it seems like we are dry by lunch and onwards.
Drier trend is great for all outdoor plans this weekend, but not great news for our drought. This rain won’t do a whole lot, but any rain is good rain at this point.
Rainfall totals will vary a good bit, some receiving less than 0.5″ while some may get lucky with 1″+.
After Sunday, no additional rain chances are in the forecast thru at least Thursday.
The good news is that temperatures will be kind to us, with highs in the upper 70s and lows near 50°, time to find that hoodie for the walk out the door in the mornings.
