Prolonged Brutal Heat, Conditional Storm Threats Over The Next Couple Days

The main headline over the next week or so will be the brutal heat. We also have some conditional storm threats to deal with, but I’ll start off with the heat.

Being outdoors for any period of time over the next…week, will not be much fun.

High temperatures will make their way into the mid to upper 90s, with dewpoints in the low to mid 70s. We’ll be flirting with actual air temperatures in the triple digits by this weekend. Heat index values will be in the 105-109° range throughout the week.

For now, we have a Heat Advisory that goes thru Friday evening, but I could see that getting extended into this weekend.

If you have to be outside for long periods of time, please take it easy. Take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. Check in on those who may not have adequate A/C or those more susceptible to heat related illnesses.

Onto the conditional storm threat(s).

Our rain/storm chances remain low this week. However, we find ourselves right on the southern edge of NW flow, which I won’t go into detail about it, because that’s not what you are here to read about. However, if you do know anything about NW flow, you know that it is incredibly annoying. Models tend to handle things poorly with this kind of set-up, and they are already far from perfect.

Anyhow, off to our north in Illinois, Indiana, etc., they will likely see several rounds of MCS (storm clusters). While models mainly think the majority of the activity stays off to our north, we must keep in mind that models are not the best with these types of setups. As these clusters start to weaken, they have a tendency to dive south.

If storms were to make it here, we’d deal with a low-end damaging straight-line wind threat, along with the potential for some localized flash flooding – especially in areas that have seen heavy rainfall recently.

The outlook from the Storm Prediction Center for today paints the picture well, much higher confidence in severe weather off to our north, with only a 5% chance of damaging straight-line winds within 25 miles for our area.

Again, confidence in this is low, including timing. If I had to throw out some general timeframes, I’d say later this evening/night and again Wednesday evening/night would be the best guesstimate if storms made it here, but I’d write that in very light pencil.

This is very much a wait and see thing, be sure to stay connected in case things change. We’ll be sending out updates as needed on all of our socials.

Rain/storm chances become near zero as we get closer to this weekend, leaving us to bake in the heat.
