The good news is that models have backed off on our rain chances this week. We’ve seen more than enough of that, so I am all for a break.

The bad news is that in return to the lower rain chances, this will allow for our heat to turn up a few notches.

High temperatures this week will climb into the mid to upper 90s. Dewpoints will be in the low to mid 70s, which – for reference, is gross. Keep those gills close.

That combination of temps + dewps will send heat index values in the 105-110° range throughout the week.

Again, not unheard-of levels of heat, but still deserving of respect. Heat related illnesses can sneak up on anyone – so be sure to take precautions against the heat, including staying hydrated and taking frequent breaks.

Rain/storms will be few and far between this week in hopes of cooling any of us off. PoPs remain fairly low at around 10-30%, peaking on Wednesday.

Winning Wattery tickets will be few and far between, although some winners can’t be ruled out in the afternoon/early evening.

Going back to Wednesday, the SPC has introduced a 5% chance of severe weather possible within 25 miles for essentially the NE half of Davidson Co. Models continue to trend more northward with storm chances, but in any case, we’ll keep an eye on it.

Unfortunately, this grossly hot pattern with low rain chances looks to continue on into the weekend and into early next week.

Truly the dog days of summer.
