Windy Tuesday + Wednesday, Storms Probably Staying Below Severe Limits Tuesday PM

Headlines:

A Wind Advisory will be in effect from noon Tuesday to 6p Wednesday for wind gusts up to 45 mph expected.

While thunderstorms are likely Tuesday PM, most should stay below severe criteria.

Let’s dive into the details.

Ahead of the storms, wind will begin to pick up starting midday Tuesday due to a strong pressure gradient over the area. Sustained winds from 15 – 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph expected. A gust or two exceeding 50 mph is not out of the question.

Store or secure loose items before strong winds: patio furniture, trash cans, sports equipment, trampolines.

Be sure to secure any loose/lightweight outdoor items! Outdoor furniture, trash cans, trampolines, etc., could all end up down the road if not secured.

Winds will likely be strongest during the midday – evening timeframe Tuesday, relaxing a bit Tuesday night, then pick back up during the day on Wednesday.

While thunderstorms are still expected Tuesday afternoon/evening, the severe threat with them remains very low.

The SPC has outlooked us with a 5% chance of damaging straight-line winds within 25 miles.

We are not included in any tornado or hail probabilities.

Reason for the low severe weather probabilities are due to the poor moisture and non-existent CAPE (storm fuel). The models have (thankfully) been consistent with this for the past several days.

HRRR model (below) shows how it all might play out:

Showers/storms entering the area sometime Tuesday afternoon, with the heaviest rain along the cold front pushing thru after sunset. Timing subject to change.

So, while some gusty winds are possible with some storms, most (maybe not all tho) storms should behave themselves and stay below severe limits. Not worried about tornadoes or hail. Damaging straight-line winds and heavy rain are the threat, although low threats.

Rainfall totals ~ 0.5 – 1″.

This should still be watched, as forecasts can always change.

Relatively low rain chances return Fri/Sat – more deets on this in the coming days. Doesn’t look like a washout right now.

Temperatures to remain close-ish to where they ought to be this time of year (mid 50s/mid 30s) – with the exception of Tuesday.
