Flash Flooding, River/Creek Rises Possible This Weekend

Headlines:

  • Flash flood threat is increasing for Saturday and Sunday, 3-5″ of additional rain is possible
  • River/creek rises will be possible, especially this weekend as rainfall totals begin to add up
  • If you live in or near a designated flood plain or in a place that has flooded before, *heads up*. Between now and Saturday, make preparations in case water threatens your home.
  • Strong to severe storms are also possible on Saturday

Majority of us have received 1.5 – 2.5 inches of rain so far, with the rain ending over the next couple of hours.

So far, we have been able to avoid any flooding issues – besides some ponding on roads and some creeks rising a tad.

More on/off showers expected throughout the day Wednesday.

0.5 – 1″ of additional rain expected, likely to avoid any flooding issues from this. HRRR demonstrates below.

We get a break from the rain Thursday + Friday.

The “main event” will be from Saturday morning to Sunday morning.

While a lot of details still have to be worked out, the threat is there for flash flooding and river flooding issues this weekend.

3-5 inches of rain in addition to what we receive today & tomorrow. This amount of rain falling over already saturated grounds may cause flooding issues.

If you live in a flood-prone area, now is the time to start making preparations in case water threatens your home. Although major river flooding doesn’t seem likely right now – better safe than sorry.

In addition to our flooding concern, we also have a threat for strong to severe storms Saturday PM. Right now, it looks like damaging straight-line winds would be the main concern. We’re still several days out, and a lot will change between now and then.

These numbers/details will likely fluctuate/change over the next several days leading up to the event.

Temperatures will vary throughout the next week. Some days in the 60s – some in the 40s.

Temperatures are expected to get below freezing Thursday night/Friday morning and again on Sunday/Monday. Not expecting a “flash freeze” due to temperatures being in the 60s in the previous days.
