Another warm and muggy day is in store for us. Tonight looks like a mess. Hey, at least it is Friday!
The high temperature today will be 81° as clouds arrive later this afternoon.
Why? Well, an upper level shortwave will be swinging through today into Saturday morning. At the surface there is cold front beginning to make its way into Tennessee. This frontal boundary is expected to sweep through tonight, and it’s the reason it going to rain tonight.
In addition to rain, we may see a few storms. The Storm Prediction Center includes us in its “marginal risk” for our area. The only threat for today will be damaging winds with gusts potentially as high as 58 mph, but likely much less than that.
As for the rain — a complex of showers with thunderstorms will sweep through this afternoon and tonight. Be careful when picking up the kiddos from school or practice tonight.
5:00 PM – 72°
There will be some isolated showers in the area. It is possible you’ll hear some rumbles of thunder as well.
7:00 PM – 69°
The complex of showers with thunderstorms are beginning to make its way into the area.
10:00 PM – 64°
The bulk of the rain will be in the area.
The overcast sky and rain will help cool us off today. Once the front passes our temperatures will drop slightly.
As usual, updated and in-storm information will be found on Twitter @NashSevereWx.
In all, NWS forecasts just under 0.5″ of rain. We remain on rainout alert for Saturday ball games.
Waking up on Saturday, temperatures will be in the upper 50s with a few breaks in the clouds. There will be a few showers lingering in the morning hours, but conditions will clear out by lunchtime.
By late afternoon the high temperature will warm up to 72° with scattered clouds. Dew points will be in the upper 40s! So dry! The northerly winds will be fairly calm at 5-10 mph.
High pressure will move on in and keep us dry for Sunday. The high temperature on Sunday will be 76° under a sunny sky with dew points in the 40s.
It will be a pleasant weekend once the front passes tonight.
Extended: We will warm up on Monday with temperatures barely reaching the 80s. It will be less humid on for the beginning of the work week. There is a chance of isolated showers Monday evening.
